I began suffering from migraine headaches at the age of four. I visited many medical doctors, neurologists, and allergists, all of which could not offer any explanation of why I was suffering from migraines or what I could do to change my condition. I only received medications to give me temporary relief from my symptoms. I was given Propranolol as a preventative medication, which I took every day three times a day. When I had a migraine, I had three different medications to choose from— Codeine, Fioricet, or Imitrex injections. All three would give me temporary relief of symptoms but had unpleasant side effects. Occasionally I wouldn‘t get any relief and would have to go to the hospital for a shot of Demerol to relieve the pain. My junior year of high school I was so “drugged” I couldn’t stay awake past 11:00a.m. and consequently attended school for only half days.
(By the time I finished college and entered the world of teaching, I was waking up with a headache every day, suffering from at least three to four migraines a week and I was taking six Codeine just to get through the day. It was around this time that a friend of mine referred me to a local chiropractor.
The chiropractor conducted an exam, and based on the results was able to explain to me what was causing my migraines. He is able to provide relief with simple adjustments to my ribs and shoulders, and other therapies. Additionally, the doctor has also taught me simple exercises I can do at home to maintain the adjustments that I receive in the office. Since I began treatment, I have gone from three to four migraines a week to one a month. I also no longer take medication for my headaches.
The doctor has educated me about the nervous system; why I suffer from migraines; and what I can do to help change my condition. He has also improved my overall health.
I started Chiropractic care in July 2000 after attending a workshop. Prior to Chiropractic care I suffered from severe pains on the back of my neck, head, shoulders, arms, legs, and lower back. I have had numbness and tingling in my fingers, burning on my shin and back. Everyday I felt as if I had the flu. I would wake in the morning very fatigued because of sleep disturbances and the pains would increase with stress anxiety.
In June 2000, I went to the doctor because I could barely walk due to severe pains in my legs. The doctor ran tests to rule out Lyme disease; I was then diagnosed with Fibromyalgia Syndrome, a disease of the muscles, tendons, and fibrous tissues.
I have had these pains for approximately one-and-a-half years, as a result of a fall I had some 15 years ago. I also suffered from fluctuating blood pressure at times and the doctor would not prescribe medication, because he thought it was stress related. He had me check and record my blood pressure twice per day over a period of time. He prescribed pain relievers, but I only got temporary relief. When I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, he prescribe Zoloft, an anti-depressant, which I stopped taking because of the side effects.
Due to the chronic pains, I was always fatigued and therefore deprived of social activities and exercise.
After a couple months of treatment with Chiropractic care my health improved tremendously. I no longer suffer from chronic pains and my energy level has increased. I am now able to get a good night’s sleep and wake without body aches anti stiffness. I am enjoying my social life, and most importantly, without any medication and side effects.
Chiropractic care did not give me temporary relief of my pains, but corrected the cause. I am certain that Chiropractic care has given me my life back.
I had been told by many people, “you shouldn’t go to a chiropractor,” but I never really got a clear answer as to why.
I was in pain. I was in pain for 3 years. I went to a doctor, and he told me that I had arthritis. I told him that “Arthritis doesn’t go with my personality.”
So I tried all of the usual solutions - heat, rest, massage. None of it really worked and I was becoming discouraged? I was in pain. I couldn‘t sleep. I couldn’t do the things that I like to do. It hurt to do anything.
I have five children. I just kept pushing through the pain to get what had to be done, done. I didn’t ever think that I would or even could be well again.
The owner of the health club that I belonged to gave me a coupon for a $15 office visit for an examination. Since I have begun Chiropractic care, I can sleep again. I can go boating again. I can have fun again!
I tell everyone I meet, and have told everyone that I know and love, about the incredible experience of Chiropractic. I am a Registered Nurse, but Chiropractic is the best!
Chiropractic changed my life, let it change yours.
Depression & ADHD
Ever since I can remember, I have had a problem dealing with stress. Poor stress management was always just an added bonus to my other afflictions. I suffer from severe depression, social disorders, and ADHD. These problems have been a thorn in my side since I was very young and have caused me a great deal of hardship, including being held back in school, feelings of inadequacy, self-punishment, severe drug abuse, and sadness. I have been to psychiatrists, psychologists, rehab, NA meetings, special tutoring, and group therapy. I was put on Prozac, Wellblutrin, and Zybrexa. Nothing seemed to work and only masked the problems. “Here, take this.” “Go talk to her.” “This will make you feel better.” Overtime, my confidence grew and I learned to deal with things, but I always had to take a pill to be the nice person I wanted to be.
After surviving a crack cocaine and methamphetamine addiction, not to mention all the other drugs I snorted or induced, you don’t want to keep putting poisons in your body. My body had ten years of drug abuse and went through two near death experiences, only to have to remain on other “legal” drugs just to function normally. Ha! No thanks!
My treatment with Chiropractic care started when I attended a stress seminar given by a local chiropractor. I heard the doctor say the words that were like music to my ears... “Drug free” and “Cure.” He seemed so passionate that I decided to give it a shot. After only two months of treatment, I have seen more improvement than I have in over fifteen years of different treatments. With some small adjustments and some exercises, my condition has done a complete turnaround I no longer need any antidepressants. My mood and self-confidence is steadily increasing, as well as remaining fairly stable. I have literally no problem with my attention span and retain information better than ever. It is quite a change and a relief to life-long issues.
Gastrointestinal Disorder & Alergies
I had suffered with all kinds of stomach and gastrointestinal problems for over ten years. I had taken Zantac, Pepcid Previcid and Prilosec, not to mention thousands of Rolaids and Tums, all of which had only helped temporarily. After numerous tests and terribly uncomfortable procedures, my doctors just continued to treat the symptoms and as a result, I received no relief.
When I heard about Chiropractic care to treat my symptoms, I was skeptical at first, but I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did! After only a couple of months of treatments and following the chiropractor’s instructions, I no longer have to take antacids or prescription drugs. I now can eat food that I could never eat before without suffering any stomach distress. Not only that, but I sleep better. I feel better. I look better and I am no longer allergic to cats and can now pet and play with my mother-in-law’s cat and not feel any allergic reaction. I have been allergic to cats all my life and now I am not!
As I continue my treatments, I can only look forward to better health and a higher quality of life. I thank, my Heavenly Father and my chiropractor for helping me feel great!
