Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in recent years has increased tremendously due to assembly line and computer jobs requiring repetitive wrist, hand and finger operations. The narrow tunnel in the wrist forms from 8 carpal bones and a strong ligament. Blood vessels, tendons, and the Median nerve pass through the tunnel on their way to the hands and fingers. With repetitive use the carpal bones can become misaligned causing inflammation, swelling and a break down of soft tissues. This leads to compression of the Median nerve resulting in pain, numbness, weakness, tingling and difficulty opening and closing the hand. The constant pressure can damage the median nerve permanently, so early treatment is important. These misalignments can be seen on X-Ray or MRI. By restoring proper alignment and motion in the carpal bones, inflammation and pressure can be reduced to allow for healing. Because the nerves in the hands travel from the spine down the arm to the hand, CTS can at times be traced to misalignments in the wrist, elbow, shoulder or neck joints. Chiropractors have developed several techniques for the treatment of CTS which produces dramatic improvement and helps circumvent surgery. Being highly trained in manipulation of the spine and extremities, Chiropractors apply specific techniques to help restore the proper alignment of misaligned joints whether in the wrist, elbow, shoulder or neck. Even those who have had multiple surgeries can sometimes be helped. Call Dr. Holtfrerich at 913-515-3419 TODAY for an Evaluation.
